From Bibbona to Casale Marittimo

There exists a beautiful part of the Maremma, situated to the south of the borders of the provinces of Livorno and Pisa, which must be visited during any trip to this beautiful part of Tuscany. The area in question is a must-see for 3 very good reasons: its wine, pecorino and enchanting towns. The zone we are talking about is that which sits between Bibona and Cecina trail, with the towns of Guardistallo, Montescudaio and Casale Marittimo being the essential ports of call of this Tuscan itinerary.

The settlements in the area are all of ancient origin with all of them containing traces of the Etruscan and Longobard (with the name Guardistallo being without doubt of Germanic origin) civilizations and some of them being mentioned within documents which date back to 11th century. Another testiment to the ancient origin of these settlements is their structure, which has been preserved over the course of the centuries so much so that a trip to this part of Tuscany is indeed like a journey through time, with their narrow, paved streets which work their way through the many stone houses and brick archways, taking us right back to the Medieval ages. But what strikes us the most is the love that the local communities have for their town and the care with which they look after their beloved place of residency. All around are balconies covered with well-kept flowers and clean roads which are also adorned with flowers.
