Markets in Florence


The markets in Florence have a wide variety of stalls where you can find great bargains and a great atmosphere. The markets tend to vary in size, some small and some bigger and are often situated in small squares. There are many districts in Florence where you can find markets, for both experienced and unexperienced shoppers, they are a fun way to shop. Five of the main markets in Florence are listed below.

Cascine Park

Probably the biggest of the Florence markets. Each Tuesday morning, this market in the Cascine Park, is where Florentines go to buy bargain-priced shoes and clothes.

San Lorenzo

Alongside the San Lorenzo church in Piazza San Lorenzo is another market. This market runs everyday in the summer and everyday apart from sunday and monday during the Winter. San Lorenzo market is home to stalls selling leather goods, clothing and jewellery, its here where you can find some of the more designer labelled goods at low prices.

Mercato Centrale

Adjoining the piazza is the Mercato Centrale. The market revolves around food and is the principal food market in Florence. It is open from 09:00 to 14:00 and also between 16:30 to 19:30 on Saturdays, except in August.

Mercato Nuovo

The Mercato Nuovo, located just to the west of the Piazza dell Signoria, originally sold silk and gold, but is now aimed more at tourists, selling souvenirs and offering gift ideas, including cheap lace, straw work and leather goods. This market is open daily in summer but closes on Monday and Sunday in the winter.

Piazza dei Ciompi Market

This is a small daily flea market which is situated in the Piazza dei Ciompi. This market sells a lot of secondhand goods. Antique dealers often trade regular antiques here and sell a variety of items, from furniture to china.
